History of CED

Center for Economic Design

The Center for Economic Design was established as a unit under Boğaziçi University conducting theoretical and applied research on economic design. The founding of the Center for Economic Design (CED) was officially announced on Resmi Gazete (Official Gazette) on February 18th, 1994. The original announcement can be reached through this link

Our esteemed founder Murat Sertel (1942-2003) pioneered CED and steered its nascent research as the inaugural director. The visionary leadership continued under the illustrious guidance of Professor Ünal Zenginobuz, who captained the Center with academic rigor and community-building zeal from 2003 to 2023.

The centre is currently managed by a scientific coordination group, Mehmet Y. Gürdal, Orhan Aygun, and Yeliz Kaçamak.

The Center's duties involve:

  • Carrying out studies and research on economic design
  • Building connections and collaborating with domestic and foreign education and research institutions in this field
  • Publishing in this field
  • Organizing and participating in seminars and conferences

The Center's main bodies are the general board (members), the executive board, and the advisory board. CED currently has around [xx] members comprising faculty and researchers.

We also benefit immensely from the contributions of an extended network of scholars including visiting professors bringing international perspective, graduate students tackling cutting-edge questions, and academic guests collaborating on projects through short and long stays. This wider community of affiliated researchers enriches the intellectual life of the Center.
